Primaries 2026: Who's On Southington's Ballot, What You Need To Know

SOUTHINGTON, CT — National and state elections are taking place on Nov. 3, but before that big day, the candidate slates must be finalized.

On Tuesday, Aug. 11, Democrats and Republicans will head to the polls for primaries, where registered members of each party will choose who will be on the November ballot.

For example, statewide, Gov. Ned Lamont is being challenged by challenger Josh Elliot for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination, so every town's Democrats will be making that decision.

Other hopefuls will also be on the ballot for both parties, depending on the town.

In Southington, candidates will be on the primary ballots on Tuesday, Aug. 11, when polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Southington voters registered with the Democratic Party will have two contested races to decide when they head to the polls for Connecticut's Aug. 11 primary. There are no GOP primaries in Southington.

According to the sample ballot released by the Connecticut Secretary of the State, Democrats will vote for their party's nominees for governor and Connecticut's 1st Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

For governor, voters will choose between:

• Ned Lamont, the party-endorsed candidate and two-term incumbent.
• Josh Elliott.

For U.S. Representative, 1st Congressional District, voters will choose among:

• Luke Bronin, the party-endorsed candidate.
• Ruth Fortune.
• Jillian Gilchrest.
• U.S. Rep. John B. Larson, D-1st District, a 14-term incumbent.

Under Connecticut primary rules, endorsed candidates are identified on the ballot with an asterisk.

Early voting

Early voting will be held at the Southington Public Library, 255 Main St., on the following dates:

• Monday, Aug. 3: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Tuesday, Aug. 4: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Wednesday, Aug. 5: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Thursday, Aug. 6: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Friday, Aug. 7: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Saturday, Aug. 8: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Sunday, Aug. 9: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Polling places across Southington will be open Tuesday, Aug. 11, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

• District 4: Kennedy School, 1071 South Main St.

• District 6: Kelley School, 501 Ridgewood Road
• District 7: Thalberg School, 145 Dunham St.
• District 8: DePaolo School, 385 Pleasant St.
• District 9: Hatton School, 70 Spring Lake Road

Only registered Democrats are eligible to vote in the Democratic primary.

Voters should cast ballots at the polling place assigned to their voting district on Election Day or may vote early at the Southington Public Library during the scheduled early voting period.
