Volunteers are invited to help maintain a Southington pollinator garden along the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail on Saturday, Aug. 15.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The Southington Land Conservation Trust is seeking volunteers to help maintain a local pollinator garden during a work session Saturday, Aug. 15.

Volunteers will meet at 10 a.m. at the trust's E. Summer Street pollinator garden along the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail in Plantsville.

Participants will spread wood chips around the garden to help maintain the site and keep its plantings thriving.

Organizers are asking volunteers to bring drinking water and gloves, along with tools such as shovels, rakes, or wheelbarrows if available.

The garden is part of Southington's Pollinator Pathway effort, which promotes pesticide-free spaces and native plants that provide habitat and food sources for bees, butterflies and other pollinators.

"Together, we can make short work of this task to help this beautiful garden thrive," the Southington Land Conservation Trust said in announcing the volunteer event.
