SOUTHINGTON, CT — Drivers can expect a detour on West Queen Street next week as crews install a new water main, according to Southington Water Works.
A section of West Queen Street between Queen Street and Newell Street will be closed to through traffic from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17, through Friday, Aug. 21.
Traffic will be routed around the work area using Newell Street and Aircraft Road, according to an announcement from Southington Water Works.
Despite the closure, customers will continue to have access to TD Bank and American Eagle Financial Credit Union.
The traffic restrictions are connected to the installation of a 12-inch water main running from Queen Street to the intersection of Newell Street and West Queen Street.
Southington Water Works announced the closure on social media in conjunction with the Southington Fire Department and Southington Police Department.
"Thank you for your patience," Southington Water Works said.
According to the Southington Police Department, the following access restrictions will be in effect:
• From 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., customers visiting TD Bank or American Eagle Financial Credit Union must access West Queen Street from Queen Street.
• From 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., West Queen Street will be closed to all traffic between Queen Street and Newell Street.
Police said motorists are encouraged to plan accordingly and use alternate routes.
Southington Water Works said it "appreciates the public's continued patience as these significant improvements are
made to the town's water system."
