• Southington Reports Surplus As Council Revisits School Funding Dispute (patch.com) — Southington residents are learning the town closed fiscal 2025 with a $2.4 million surplus and expects a $2.6 million state payment from an old middle school renovation, strengthening local finances. Town council members, however, are sharply divided over an $834,000 transfer to the Southington Board of Education, raising questions about how state funds, mill rates, and expert financial advice were handled during the budget process.
   

• Southington Organization To Cancel Battery Recycling Program (patch.com) — Southington residents who rely on the Southington Land Trust's battery recycling program need to plan for changes as the nonprofit ends collections at its Main Street site and the public library on Aug. 31. Locals are being directed instead to the Southington Transfer Station in Plantsville and the Queen Street Staples, while the group urges continued battery recycling to protect the town's environment.
