Southington Plans New Street Parking Restrictions Near High School

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Southington police are planning additional on-street parking restrictions in several neighborhoods near Southington High School once a school parking project is completed, Southington Town Manager Alex Ricciardone told the Southington Town Council.

Ricciardone discussed the planned changes during the council's Aug. 10 meeting, saying the town had recently received a memorandum from the police department outlining the restrictions.

"The police department is planning to increase restrictions on a lot of the streets near the high school when the parking project is complete," Ricciardone said, according to meeting minutes.

The changes are expected to affect Mandel Drive, February Drive, Pleasant Street, Annelise Avenue and Darling Street.

The minutes did not specify what the new restrictions would entail or when they would take effect beyond tying them to completion of the high school parking project.

The planned restrictions follow approval of improvements at the Southington High School property at 720 Pleasant St.

The Southington Planning and Zoning Commission voted 7-0 on June 2 to approve a Southington Public Schools site plan that includes new tennis courts, athletic court lighting, and parking improvements.
