Beloved Southington FD Leader Retiring After 25 Years

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The town's hybrid paid/volunteer fire department last week officially said goodbye to a longtime leader among Southington's bravest.

Southington Deputy Fire Chief Glenn Dube is retiring after 25 years of service to the town and will continue his fire service career in an executive leadership position in South Carolina.

The Southington Fire Department announced Dube's departure over the weekend, saying he was preparing to work his final days with the department.

"Throughout his career, Chief Dube has served our department and community in numerous roles, ultimately rising through the ranks to deputy chief," the department said. "His years of experience, leadership, and commitment to the fire service have made a lasting impact on SFD and the members he has served alongside."

While Dube is leaving Southington, he is not retiring from the fire service.

According to the department, he will take an executive leadership role with a fire department in South Carolina.

Dube was recently honored at a retirement party attended by dozens of people, including some who traveled from as far away as San Diego, Calif., according to the Southington Board of Fire Commissioners.

The commission shared photographs from the gathering Saturday, Aug. 29, saying the turnout reflected Dube's impact during his career.

"It was a true testament to the character and commitment of Chief Dube," the commission said. "It was great to see so many from the 'old brigade' too."

Southington Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 2033 also marked Dube's retirement Saturday, noting that he held several leadership positions within the union during his career.

"Throughout his career, Chief Dube has served our department and community with dedication while also taking on numerous leadership roles with IAFF Local 2033," the union said.

The SFD thanked Dube and his family for his quarter-century of service to Southington and wished them success as they begin their next chapter.
