SOUTHINGTON, CT — The Bristol-based Main Street Community Foundation will mark a decade of supporting programs for local men and boys with an anniversary celebration next month in Southington.
The foundation's Men & Boys' Fund will hold its 10th Anniversary Men of Value and Purpose Celebration, or MVP Celebration, Thursday, Oct. 1, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Aqua Turf Club.
The dinner event will feature a bourbon tasting, silent auction, and guest speaker Tom Moore, the recently retired general manager and assistant coach for the UConn men's basketball program.
Bristol native and Rutgers men's basketball head coach Steve Pikiell had been scheduled to speak but will be unable to attend while undergoing cancer treatment, according to the foundation.
Pikiell recently disclosed his diagnosis in a letter to the community and asked Moore to speak in his place.
Tickets cost $75 per person.
Proceeds will support programs serving men and boys in Bristol, Burlington, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington and Wolcott.
Over the past decade, Main Street Community Foundation has awarded $99,000 from the Men & Boys' Fund through program and immediate-response grants, according to the organization.
The fund was established to address unmet needs and improve the lives of men and boys in the six communities served by the foundation.
Main Street Community Foundation was established in 1995 and says it has awarded more than $36 million in grants and scholarships since its founding.
