SOUTHINGTON, CT — Individuals and families in Southington and surrounding communities now have another local option for mental health care with the opening of Cheshire Counseling, a Southbury Counseling practice that began serving patients in January 2026.
Located at 700 West Johnson Avenue, Suite 200, Cheshire Counseling provides professional counseling services for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families, offering support for a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and relationship concerns.
The Cheshire location is part of the continued growth of Southbury Counseling, an organization focused on expanding access to quality mental health care while creating
welcoming and supportive environments for both patients and clinicians.
"We're excited to continue expanding access to high-quality mental health care in the community through Cheshire Counseling," said owner Brendan Stack, LPC, LADC. "Our
goal has always been to create welcoming, supportive environments for both patients and clinicians, and Cheshire is another step toward making care more accessible for
individuals, couples, children, and families throughout the region."
Leading the Cheshire office is Christine Conway, LCSW, Clinical Director, a licensed clinical social worker who is dedicated to helping individuals and families create
meaningful, lasting change. Conway's path to a career in mental health counseling came after a 25-year career in
retail operations. Ultimately, she decided to pursue what she describes as her true passion — helping others.
She earned her bachelor's degree in Social Work from Western Connecticut State University in 2019, followed by a master's degree in Social Work from Sacred Heart University in 2020.
Today, Conway draws upon a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches to help clients work toward meaningful and measurable progress. Her clinical work incorporates modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma-focused interventions,
and exposure-based techniques. Her background in substance use treatment also gives Conway additional experience
supporting individuals working toward recovery, stability, and positive long-term change.
"I am passionate about helping individuals and families recognize their strengths, work through challenges, and create meaningful change in their lives," Conway said.
Although Conway grew up in North Jersey, she has called Connecticut home for the past 22 years. She currently lives in Watertown, where she enjoys spending time with
her family. Her connection to the state and understanding of the communities she serves provide a personal connection to her work at Cheshire Counseling.
The Cheshire location places an emphasis on
developing its clinicians and cultivating leadership from within the organization. The practice has established an internal leadership development program designed to provide clinicians with opportunities for professional
growth and expanded responsibilities.
"The leadership development program was something we started organically over time as the practice continued to grow," Stack explained. "As we expanded into multiple
locations, it became important to create a pathway for clinicians who showed strong leadership ability, initiative, and alignment with our culture to take on larger roles within
the organization."
The program focuses on mentorship, operational training, clinical leadership, and staff support, helping clinicians develop the skills needed to effectively oversee teams and
locations.
"A big part of it is making sure we continue promoting from within whenever possible, rather than bringing in outside leadership unfamiliar with our values and approach to
patient care," Stack said.
By investing in its clinicians and leadership team, Southbury Counseling aims to ensure that its continued growth remains centered on quality patient care and strong relationships within the communities it serves.
For Cheshire residents and families, the new location provides another option for accessing professional mental health services without having to travel outside the
community.
