SOUTHINGTON/MIDDLETOWN, CT — A Southington man who owns a roofing company in Middletown has been arrested on a workers' compensation insurance fraud charge after state investigators allegedly discovered employees working at roofing sites who were not reported to the company's insurance carrier.
Inspectors from the Workers' Compensation Fraud Control Unit of the Connecticut Office of the Chief State's Attorney charged Luis Pomaquiza, 42, of Southington, on Thursday, Oct. 15, according to a unit release.
Pomaquiza, who owns LA Roofing LLC in Middletown, was charged with defrauding a workers' compensation insurance carrier, according to a news release issued Friday, Oct. 16, by the Division of Criminal Justice.
State officials said inspectors worked with agents from the Connecticut Department of Labor's Wage and Workplace Standards Division to investigate the company.
During coordinated visits to roof-replacement job sites in Southington, investigators determined that LA Roofing had multiple employees working who were not being reported to the company's workers' compensation insurance carrier, authorities said.
Pomaquiza was arrested on a warrant and released on a $10,000 non-surety bond.
He is scheduled to appear Tuesday, Oct. 20, in Middletown Superior Court.
