Arrest Made In Connection To Southington Woman’s Overdose Death

The suspect is accused of distributing heroin in connection to the overdose death of a 31-year-old woman last month.

CHESHIRE, CT — A Cheshire man was arrested on a federal charge of distributing heroin in connection to the death of a 31-year-old Southington woman last month, according to authorities. Thomas J. Halleran, 36, was charged Wednesday and was ordered detained pending a detention hearing that is scheduled for Aug. 23, U.S. States Attorney Deirdre M. Daly and Michael J. Ferguson, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration for New England, announced in a press release.

As alleged in court documents, on July 25, Southington Police and emergency medical personnel responded to a residence in Southington where they encountered an unresponsive 31-year-old female on the floor. The female was pronounced deceased.

Investigators seized two folds of suspected heroin and/or fentanyl, other drug paraphernalia, and the victim’s cellphone, according to the press release.

Authorities said analysis of the seized cellphone revealed that Halleran supplied heroin/fentanyl to the victim shortly before her death.

Halleran was taken into custody by Southington Police on Aug. 16 without incident at a residence in New Britain following a month-long investigation, according to police.

The federal complaint charges Halleran with possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, heroin, an offense that carries a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years.
