Asbestos Being Removed from Ideal Forging Site in Southington

Demolition crews are removing asbestos from the old Ideal Forging building site.

The buildings on Center Street are being torn down for a housing and retail site, according to the Record-Journal.

Most hazardous materials were removed in 2013, but some couldn’t be removed due to building damage. The demolition company received permission to demolish the building while removing asbestos that couldn’t be reached safely.

Town officials said the material won’t likely get in the air and precautions are being taken.
