Balance, flexibility and the dreaded fear of falling

Free Hartford HealthCare program on Aug. 6 at Cheshire Senior Center can keep you on your feet.

CHESHIRE – As people age, it can become more difficult to maintain balance and falls can become more common, leading to serious injury and further complications. When people become unsteady on their feet, they often become afraid of falling, a fear which actually has a name: basophobia. Mark Colello, exercise physiologist at Southington Care Center, will present the free program, “Balance, flexibility and the dreaded fear of falling,” on Monday, Aug. 6, 1 p.m., at Cheshire Senior Center, 240 Maple Ave. He will focus on reducing environmental risks, improving physicality, boosting bone strength, and additional factors that can prevent falls. Southington Care Center is sponsoring.

Seating is limited. To register, call Cheshire Senior Center, 203.272.8286.

Southington Care Center offers skilled nursing and rehabilitation services, and is a not for profit member of Hartford HealthCare Senior Services. For more information, visit http://southingtoncare.org.
