Southington Police Department's K9 Lou has been given a ballistic vest thanks to non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. The vest was sponsored by Sign Pro, Inc. of Plantsville. K9 Lou's vest will be embroidered with the sentiment "This gift of protection provided by Sign Pro, Inc."Sign Pro owner Peter Rappocciois is "a strong supporter of the Southington Police Department and its K-9 unit. The safety of the officers and their K-9's is of the utmost importance and was happy to assist with this endeavor," according to a post on the Southington Police Facebook page.Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501c (3) charity located in East Taunton, MA. whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. The suggested donation to provide one protective vest for law enforcement K9 is $950.00. Each vest is valued at $1,795 to $2,234 and has a five-year warranty.
