Beloved Southington PD K-9 Retires From Duty
The veteran police dog's last day on the job was Friday, Sept. 20.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A beloved officer in the Southington Police Department retired at the end of last week, looking forward to a life of treats, sticks, and quiet, peaceful walks.
SPD K-9 officer "Tank" signed off on his final patrol shift on Friday, Sept. 29 at 2 a.m.
According to the SPD, Tank spent the last five years in patrol working alongside his handler, Sgt. Neal Ayotte.

The canine was trained in apprehension, tracking, and narcotics detection, according to police.
"The duo served the community of Southington with professionalism, integrity, and honor," wrote the SPD in a statement.

"We at the Southington Police Department extend our sincere gratitude to Sgt. Ayotte and Tank for their unwavering commitment over the years, and wish Tank many enjoyable years to come at home with his family."
