Berube Selected as 2012 Mark Henne Scholarship Winner

Michael Berube was awarded the Southington Public Library's Mark Henne Memorial Scholarship this week.

Michael Berube has been selected as the 2012 Mark Henne Memorial Scholarship recipient. The Mark Henne Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of Mark Henne, a Southington native who worked at the Southington Library and Museum.

Henne was a staff member at the Library for 15 years working his way up from page to the Head of the Collection Management Department. The scholarship is awarded to an individual who lives or works in Southington and is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Library Science.

Berube knew and admired Mark and like him Mike began his library career as a page and is now pursuing his Master’s Degree in Library Science at Southern Connecticut State University.

Berube says he is extremely grateful to the professional librarians who are mentoring him as he learns the skills of professional librarianship.

Henne was one of those librarians who taught Berube how to deal with the day to day aspects of working in a public library setting. Henne also shared his love of the work and the institution, encouraging Mike to pursue his MLS degree.

Berube would like to thank the Henne family and The Friends of the Southington Library for awarding him the 2012 Mark Henne Memorial Scholarship.
