Bicyclist Hurt After Collision In Southington: Police

The incident happened outside a supermarket shopping plaza Thursday night.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A 21-year-old bicyclist was injured Thursday night when he collided with a motor vehicle near a Southington shopping plaza.

According to the Southington Police Department, the incident happened just before 9:15 a.m., when local police, firefighters, and emergency medical responders were called to an area near the Shoprite Plaza, 785 Queen St.

They were responding to a report of a car colliding with a bicyclist.

Police said a 37-year-old Waterbury woman in a 2005 Ford Explorer was turning right onto Queen Street from the Shoprite parking lot when a bicyclist entered the intersection at the same time.

The bicyclist, identified as a resident of Bristol, then slammed into the vehicle's front, right headlight, according to police.

According to the SPD, the bicyclist was conscious and alert and appeared to suffer only minor injuries.

He was, however, taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation, police said.
