When Colin Cavallari was a young fellow, his parents, Paula (O’Keefe) and Mike Cavallarii, would bring him to Harvest Bakery after church. Colin, all dressed up from the services, would walk into the bakery like he owned the place and at two years old would say to owner Marty Hurwitz “Marty, how are you doing” and add, “Marty, you know you need help here!”

That started a longtime friendship where Marty and Colin would develop a rapport with one another, even to the point where young Colin would say that the store owner should hire him.
“You can’t make change,” Marty would respond.

“I can stand on a box and sell donuts and talk to the people, and you can make the change,” Colin would reply.
Wouldn’t you know, Colin, now a teenager, started working at the bakery a couple of weeks ago, and hadn’t learned the cash register his first day but was able to handle customers anyway. One woman came in and wasn’t sure what to order and Colin asked, “Are they going to be for kids or adults,” and that broke out smiles from the other customers in the bakery who realized it was his first day on the job. Colin’s quick reply?
“I may not know how to operate the cash register yet, but I do know the donuts. I’ve been coming here for a lot of years.”
Ask for Colin the next time you go to Harvest!
(I wonder if Marty plans to walk into Harvest Bakery someday when Colin is working and say, “Hey, Colin, how are you doing? Do you need any help?)
BEHS girls tennis
This is a topic that was brought up the other day about there being no photo of the 1975 Bristol Eastern girls tennis team in the yearbook, the first year of this varsity program. Dave Greenleaf emailed and informed me that the tennis teams that play any certain year have their photo in the following year’s yearbook.
I should have picked up on this as someone who browses these books often. The reason for this is that the yearbook information has to be ready at a deadline before graduation and that’s sometime in the spring I would assume, or earlier.
‘50 and ‘51 reunion
Paul DiNoia reminded me that this combined Bristol High class reunion will be held on Oct. 6th of this year on the second floor at Max V Pizza.
Birthdays
Today is Katie Sorel’s birthday and tomorrow it will be the same for both Ricky Schmaltz and Charlie Johns.
