SOUTHINGTON, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

Lasell University, Newton MA

• Ashley DiBattista of Plantsville became a Sport Management student at Lasell University this fall. DiBattista joins more than 580 new students at the University.

SUNY Oneonta, Oneonta NY

• Jess Kerchis of Southington joins the SUNY Oneonta family this fall. Kerchis is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Childhood Education (1-6). The newest Red Dragons officially joined the Oneonta family by walking through the historic pillars of Old Main during the traditional Pass Through the Pillars ceremony on the campus quad the night before classes began.

University of Vermont, Burlington VT

• On Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, Maxwell Heath of Southington and more than 270 first-year University of Vermont students, led by 76 upper class leaders began their UVM experience as part of TREK, a unique, seven-day first year enrichment program sponsored by the University's Department of Student Life. Heath participated in Better Burlington Crew. A part of the Service TREK program which gives students the opportunity to enhance self-awareness and further develop your understanding of service, leadership, social justice, and civic-mindedness, Burlington Crew TREK allows the newest members of the UVM Community with the opportunity to explore and serve a variety of community service agencies in Burlington, Vermont. Projects this year included help with food distribution and storage, gardening, and building beautification at the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf, the UVM Campus Kitchen, the teen center at Essex CHIPS, the Committee on Temporary Shelter and other agencies.
