Cars Collide at Major Intersection in Southington

One person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, police said.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A serious crash closed down a section of Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike Sunday morning, police said.

Early in the morning on Sunday, the Southington Police Department responded to the intersection of Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike and South End Road for a two-car motor vehicle collision with injuries.

An Eversource utility pole was struck during the collision, police said.

One driver was identified as Jonathan Amenta, age 26, of Southington. Police said he sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Saint Mary’s Hospital by American Medical Response.

The driver of the second vehicle was identified as Terri Carson, age 19, of Meriden, police said. Carson had three additional occupants in her vehicle, police said.

One of the occupants was transported to Mid- State Hospital for minor injuries, police said.

The intersection of Meriden-Waterbury Tpke at South End Road was closed for several hours while

Southington’s Accident Investigation Team was investigating the collision.

The road was re-opened at 7:30 a.m., police said.
