Ceremony Set To Rename Southington Pavilion After Parks Advocate

The ceremony will take place on Wednesday, June 12, at 5:30 p.m.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A dedication ceremony will take place later Wednesday, June 12, to name a town-owned pavilion after one of the recreation department's biggest benefactors.

The public is invited to attend a pavilion dedication ceremony in honor of the late Joseph J. LaPorte on Wednesday, June 12, at 5:30 p.m.

Guests are invited to meet at the pavilion located on the Southington Drive-In property at 995 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike.

In April, Southington selectmen unanimously voted to re-name the town-owned pavilion there after LaPorte, a longtime member of the town's parks and recreation commission.

He died on March 30 at 90.
