Child Among 3 Shot In New Britain; Search For Suspect Is On
The shooting took place near a school in New Britain.

NEW BRITAIN, CT — Police are sweeping the area for someone who shot three others in New Britain Wednesday, including a child, according to police and media reports.
Three people were shot in what appears to be a domestic situation near a New Britain elementary school, according to city officials.
Mayor Erin Stewart tweeted that there were two adult female victims and one child. They were transported to local hospitals for apparent gunshot injuries and "are expected to be okay," she said in a Tweet.

She said it appears the incident is domestic in nature. The suspect has been identified as 36-year-old Jermaine Tywane Scott. Police released a photo of him.
"This is not a random incident it appears to be domestically related," she said in a Tweet.

Police backed up that assessment in a statement issued later Wednesday morning.
New Britain police said the initial call came in for the 100 block of Newington Avenue at 6:57 a.m.
Chamberlain Elementary School is located at 120 Newington Ave. A New Britain public school spokesman told media outlets that no children were at the school when the shooting happened because the school day had not begun.

Chamberlain school is open, and people were being directed to the back entrance, Stewart said.
Police said anyone with information on Scott or where he may have fled to is being asked to call 860-826-3000. He is considered armed and dangerous, police said. According to a Hartford Courant story, he was acquitted of murder three years ago in New Haven.
School system officials said Chamberlain is in a "modified lockdown."
