Child Safety: Southington To Host Free Car Seat Safety Check
Southington families can receive free child car seat inspections and installations at the Calendar House this weekend.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — The Early Childhood Collaborative of Southington and the Southington Police Department will host a free child car seat safety check event on Saturday, May 30.
The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Southington Calendar House, 388 Pleasant St., with vehicle inspections conducted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Certified child passenger safety seat officers will inspect car seats for recalls and expiration dates, verify the child’s height and weight requirements, adjust harness straps and assist with proper installation, according to organizers.

Officials said any installation or usage issues identified during the event will be corrected, and police will not issue tickets for seat violations discovered during inspections.

- Rear-facing seats until age 2 and 30 pounds
- A five-point harness or rear-facing seat until age 5 and 40 pounds
- A booster seat or car seat until age 8 and 60 pounds
