Connecticut Grapplers Excel at New England Championships

PROVIDENCE, RI — Wrestlers from Connecticut had a very successful Friday and Saturday at the New England High School Championships at the Providence Career and Technical Academy.

Grapplers from Danbury, Daniel Hand, Fitch, Foran, New Milford and Southington captured individual weight class championships, and 25 other competitors from Connecticut placed by finishing second through sixth.

In the team standings, Danbury was third with 75 points, close behind champion Ponaganset (RI), which had 83, and runnerup Mt. Anthony (VT) with 80. Southington was eighth (47.5) and Fitch wound up ninth (45.5).

Danbury had three placewinners, while Fairfield Warde, Fitch, Killingly, New Canaan and Southington each had two. A total of 24 Connecticut schools had at least one representative make the podium.
