Despite Cold, Ice Still Unsafe In Southington: Officials
Ice fishing and ice skating are prohibited at two prominent town locations.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — Despite days of bitter cold, the Southington Recreation Department Thursday has closed two town ponds to ice recreation activities, citing unsafe ice.
According to recreation officials, ice fishing at Crescent Lake and ice skating at Memorial Park are prohibited due to "unsafe ice conditions."
A recent inspection of the areas by town staff has revealed a thick layer of snow, caused by the recent snowstorm, actually insulating the ice.
