Driver Gets DUI Charge In December 3-Vehicle Crash In Southington

A drunken driving charge had been levied on a man involved in a December crash in Southington.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A drunken driving charge had been levied on a man involved in a December crash in Southington during which his vehicle bounced off two others in the wrong lane, a report indicates.

At 7:45 p.m. Thursday, police arrested Travis Kiyak, 28, at his residence in the Marion section of Southington. He was charged via a warrant with driving under the influence, failure to maintain a proper lane, operating a motor vehicle while under suspension and failure to insure a private motor vehicle.

Kiyak was held overnight on a $20,000 court-set bond and was to appear before a judge on Friday, police said.

The warrant stems from the investigation into a three-vehicle crash on
Dec 1 in the area of Meriden Waterbury Turnpike and Lombardo Court, police said.

The warrant alleges that, at 5:50 p.m., Kiyak was traveling traveling west in the
westbound lane of Meriden Waterbury Trpke when his vehicle crossed the double yellow center line and went into the eastbound lane. While in the eastbound lane, the vehicle hit the left rear quarterpanel of another car, continued west in the eastbound lane and struck the front end of a third car, according to a warrant.

Kiyak was injured and at the scene and also "showed signs of impairment," according to a report. He was transported via ambulance to a local hospital for treatment and medical records revealed he had "an elevated blood alcohol content," according tio a report.

Kiyak’s driver’s license was suspended as Nov. 8, 2017 and his vehicle was not insured.

Neither of the other operators involved reported injuries, police said.
