Southington Police Cite Seven For Using Phones While Driving

Violations could come with a fine between $100 and $200 per offense.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Motorists needing to utilize their cell phones might want to pull over, especially in Southington, where an apparent enforcement operation Tuesday had at least seven people on their phones being greeted with flashing police lights.

From an 18-year-old male from Wilmington, Vt., to a 43-year-old Southington man, the day's take of alleged cell phone scofflaws bridged multiple decades of life.

The earliest infraction for operating a hand-held telephone or electronic device in a moving vehicle was 8:35 a.m. involving a 30-year-old Danbury resident.

Meanwhile, the tickets for motor vehicle violations, including more cell phone violations, came in throughout the morning.

Violations, if carried through to the full extent of the law, could come with a fine between $100 and $200 per offense, depending on how many times one has been cited for this violation.
