One Rescued From Burning Building In Southington: SFD: UPDATE

Units from Southington, Meriden, New Britain, and Bristol battled a structure fire at a mixed-use building on Center Street Tuesday.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Firefighters from several area towns, as well as Southington, were able to quickly put out a basement fire in a mixed-use building, rescuing a resident from the building's second floor.

According to the Southington Fire Department, the blaze impacted 101 Center St., Southington, at 10:17 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

Firefighters rushed to the scene for a report of smoke coming from the building's basement, said the SFD in a release Tuesday afternoon.

Once local units arrived, protocol called for Meriden, Bristol and New Britain firefighters to be called to the scene for mutual aid, while the Cheshire Fire Department covered for those units.

Firefighters gained entry into the building and were able to suppress the blaze and help a second-floor resident escape.

The cause of the blaze is being investigated by the Southington Fire Marshal's Office.

"We would like to thank our mutual aid partners, AMR and Southington police for their assistance," wrote the SFD.

According to online images from real estate websites, 101 Center St. is a mixed-use building with commercial uses on the lower floor and apartments on the upper floors.

The location is the site of a local barbershop, according to online business listings.
