SOUTHINGTON, CT — A former treasurer of the Southington Democratic Town Committee is being accused of stealing from the organization, police said.

During the month of January, the Southington Police Department received a complaint about missing money from executive board members of the town committee, according to a warrant released Thursday.

The complaint accused former SDTC Treasurer James Sinclair of stealing funds from the organization while he was serving as treasurer, according to a warrant.

A warrant states that when police reviewed DTC financial records from Sinclair's time as Treasurer — 2017 to 2021 — investigators found that Sinclair failed to deposit approximately $420 worth of cash donations made to the SDTC, during 2021.

The warrant for Sinclair charged him with sixth-degree larceny.

the State Elections Enforcement Commission."

A separate investigation is being conducted by the State Elections Enforcement Commission, police said.

Sinclair surrendered on Thursday and was released on a promise to appear in court on April 14, records show.
