Glazed-Over Highway Sections Cause Monday Havoc in Southington
DOT sand trucks were on the highway trying to get ahead of the weather.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The stretch of Interstate-84 through Southington was a mess for the early stages of the Monday morning commute because of overpasses that began icing over, highway officials were reporting.
State Department of Transportation traffic cameras were showing several spin-outs and sections of pavement on overpasses that had a glaze over them.
Temperatures were below freezing.

DOT sand trucks were on the highway trying to melt the glaze. Just before 7 a.m., traffic was at a standstill just before the eastbound Queen Street exit.
Just before 8 a.m., a crash took place on the westbound lanes near Exit 32.

DOT officials were urging caution while stretches of the highway were being worked on.
