Hartford HealthCare Senior Services CNAs earn Caring Hands Awards

CNAs from six long-term, short-term and residential communities received awards for their exemplary care from LeadingAge Connecticut.

SOUTHINGTON – Six certified nursing assistants who care for residents and patients in Hartford HealthCare Senior Services communities were recently honored with Caring Hands Awards. LeadingAge Connecticut held the congratulatory luncheon on April 8 at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville.

Honorees included: Victoria Clarke, CNA, of Mulberry Gardens of Southington; Samantha Mifflin, CNA, of The Orchards at Southington; Olivia Silverman, CNA, of Southington Care Center; Rosa Marin, CNA, of Jerome Home in New Britain; Sashen Clarke, resident care associate, of Cedar Mountain Commons in Newington; and Yomayra Morales, CNA, of Jefferson House in Newington.

“The Caring Hands Award is a recognition of the contribution that nursing aides provide in enhancing the quality of life for older adults. The focus is on honoring those who exemplify the highest standards of compassion, commitment and excellence in caregiving,” according to LeadingAge Connecticut, a member of the national Leading Age. This association includes 6,000 not for profit organizations dedicated to advancing policies, promoting practices and conducting research to support and empower people to live more fully as they age.

All honorees were nominated by the executive director or nursing directors in the communities where they are employed.

Cirie S. Dorosh, RN, BSN, CRRN, Southington Care Center director of nursing, nominated Olivia Silverman, a three-year employee. “Olivia works very diligently every day and treats her residents with respect and dignity. She gives our residents kind, organized and specific resident-centered caring, knowing and understanding them, anticipating their requests and advocating,” the nomination read in part. “Her enthusiasm and brightness for life as well as the care she provides are evident every day.”

Maley Hunt, Cedar Mountain Commons executive director, nominated Sashen Clarke, a five-year employee. “Sashen exemplifies the values of Hartford HealthCare, working with integrity, safety, caring and excellence for the residents. She is a ‘superstar’ when it comes to addressing the unique needs of each resident, whether it is by dancing with them, giving hugs or delivering that one-on-one care. Sashen is the caregiver we would want for our loved ones.” Clarke has also received more than 125 recognitions from her co-workers and supervisors via the Hartford HealthCare online recognition platform.

“I am so proud of this extraordinary group of caregivers who make our residents their top priority. Each of them is a role model in demonstrating kind and compassionate care, and is truly deserving of this recognition,” said Lisa Connolly, vice president, Hartford HealthCare Senior Services.
