Hartford HealthCare Senior Services program provides understanding of diabetes basics

MERIDEN - An estimated 29.1 million people in the U.S. have diabetes - a serious, lifelong condition, according to American Diabetes Association 2012 statistics. Of these, more than 8 million people do not know they have this disorder and are not receiving medical care.
What is diabetes? What is the diagnosis process? What steps are needed to manage this disease? A free program covering this topic will be held Monday, Sept. 19, 10:30-11:30 a.m., at Meriden Senior Center, 22 W. Main St. Facilitator will be Anne Young, MS, RD, CDE, registered dietician and certified diabetes educator, MidState Diabetes and Nutrition Center. This program is hosted by Hartford HealthCare Senior Services.
