Healthy Family FunFest features hands-on experiences, screenings
Free event on Sunday, Feb. 23, 10a-2p, at Aqua Turf Club brings education and healthy fun for all ages

PLANTSVILLE – The 11th annual Healthy Family FunFest on Sunday, Feb. 23 is promising to be a fun educational experience showcasing easy ways to incorporate better eating, exercise and good choices to achieve a healthier lifestyle. This free health-focused event will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Aqua Turf Club, 556 Mulberry St. Last year, approximately 3,500 people of all ages participated in health screenings, learned about the latest in health care, and joined in interactive wellness activities.
Among the highlights will be the GoodLife Fitness Challenge for families; LIFE STAR medical air transport helicopter from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (based on availability); Beat Parkinson’s boxing; hands-only CPR; and demonstrations of CESI lifelike training mannequins. Health screenings will include blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, balance, mental health, genetic testing and sleep disorders as well as vision screening for children. Child-friendly activities include the Superheroes Kids Area courtesy of Southington-Cheshire Community YMCAs, face painting and Valentine the Clown.
Outside will be emergency vehicles, car seat safety checks, Hartford Hospital’s Digital Mobile Mammography bus, LIFE STAR, and STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) Scouts. More than 100 Hartford HealthCare medical professionals representing dozens of specialties will be on hand. Most booths will be providing games and hands-on activities to supplement the information.

Special guests include Cory Myers of iHeart Radio, David Fisch of The River 105.9 FM - AM Drive host, and Rob Dibble, sports personality.
Shuttle bus service will be available from the commuter lot on Route 10, South Main Street at the intersection of Mulberry Street. Rides are courtesy of Mulberry Gardens of Southington and The Orchards at Southington assisted and independent living communities.

Healthy Family FunFest’s premiere sponsor is the Bradley H. Barnes & Leila U. Barnes Memorial Trust at Main Street Community Foundation. Team player sponsors are Aria Medical Aesthetics and Dental Group of Meriden-Wallingford. The event is presented by Hartford HealthCare and the Southington-Cheshire Community YMCAs.
Visitors are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for Southington Bread for Life.
