Healthy strategies for coping with diabetes

BERLIN - Diabetes can be a daunting diagnosis – one which has affects 21 million people in the U.S., according to 2012 statistics from the American Diabetes Association. In addition, an estimated 8.1 million people are undiagnosed.

Healthy eating and other strategies can play a role in prevention and managing the disease. A free program about the basics of diabetes will be held Wednesday, April 5, 1 p.m., at Berlin Senior Center, 33 Colonial Drive. The program, sponsored by Hartford HealthCare Senior Services, will be facilitated by Anne Young, MS, RD, CDE, registered dietician and certified diabetes educator, MidState Diabetes and Nutrition Center.
