Heat Wave Relief Options Announced In Southington

Cooling centers in Southington will be opened starting Wednesday morning due to the expected heat wave.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — With the state activating hot-weather protocols related to this week's expected heat wave, the Town of Southington Tuesday morning announced similar measures.

The Southington Police Department said local protocols will start at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26, and continue through to Sunday, July 30.

As part of those protocols, the town will be opening cooling centers for folks to safely take shelter from expecte 90-degree plus heat and high humidity.

Southington has three cooling centers and they're located at:

• Calendar House, 388 Pleasant St.; Hours of operation: Wednesday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

• Southington Public Library, 255 Main St.; Hours of operation: Wednesday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• Southington Police Department, 69 Lazy Lane; Hours of operation: All hours where the library or Calendar House are closed
