High-Tech Manufacturer's Expansion Approved In Southington

The Southington Planning and Zoning Commission approved an expansion project for a local manufacturer of switches and sensors.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The town's zoning board has approved an expansion project for a growing, high-tech manufacturer in town.

The Southington Planning and Zoning Commission at its last meeting on Feb. 6 unanimously approved a "site plan modification" for Innovative Components, which operates at 635 Old Turnpike Road, Southington.

This allows the manufacturer of metal switches and sensors to build a 1,500-square-foot expansion at the facility, which is in an industrially zoned area.

Southington resident and company owner Paul Mariani was at the PZC meeting last week to discuss the proposal, which was easily approved.

He said the current building will be expanded to accommodate the existing business operations.

"Basically, we're looking to expand it for storage for an existing business that's there," Mariani said.

According to Joe Kubisek, who is Innovative Components' operations manager, business in the company is growing and more space is needed for storage.

He said the company will still operate from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, with no impact expected to the surrounding areas.

The new addition also doesn't require any additional parking, Kubisek said.

"We're just kind of out of space, we're just dancing around each other," Kubisek said.

Kubisek said the addition could be a precursor to adding machinery, staff, and additional manufacturing capabilities at the site.

"In a nutshell, business is good and we need to expand and we want to stay in Southington," Kubisek said.
