Household Hazwaste Being Collected From Berlin/Southington Homes
A regional household hazardous waste collection will take place Friday, May 19, in Berlin.
SOUTHINGTON/BERLIN, CT — Residents from Southington and Berlin, among other towns, can safely dispose of household hazardous waste at a special, regional collection event Friday, May 19, in Berlin.
Bristol-based Tunxis Recycling, which serves the towns of Berlin, Southington, Bristol, Burlington, New Britain, Prospect, Plainville, Plymouth and Wolcott, is hosting the event at the Berlin Residential Recycling Center, 642 Christian Lane, Berlin.
The collection even will take place from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The goal of the collection is to safely collect and dispse of hazardous waste found in households, which can reduce the chance of accidental poisoning, prevent damage to water and sewer systems and protect surface and groundwater.
Several types of items are available for collection, including paints, varnishes, pool chemicals, auto fluids, fertilizers and kerosene/fuel oil, among others.

Items not being collected are appliances, commercial/industrial waste, electronics and medicines, among other items.
Participants are asked to keep the products in their original containers and not to mix them.
"Household hazardous products can pose serious risks to your family's health and the health of our environment," reads a flyer.
