Tractor Trailer/Plow Truck Crash Cleared In Southington: UPDATE

Dangerous black ice statewide, especially inland, has caused dangerous travel conditions early Wednesday morning in the state.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 84 in Southington has closed the highway, as black ice on Wednesday morning has made for extremely treacherous commutes, but the accident is now cleared.

According to the state Department of Transportation, I-84 East was closed between exits 32 and 33 because of a tractor-trailer accident, but by mid-morning, a lane was open, and the left and center lanes of travel were closed.

The DOT reports that traffic was backed up 3.5 miles due to the accident.

The incident was first reported at 4:19 a.m., and it is no longer listed on the DOT's incident report.

WFSB Channel 3 is reporting that the accident involved a tractor-trailer and a DOT plow truck.

Images posted online by the Southington Fire Department's firefighter union showed a tandem tractor-trailer involved in the crash.
