Brick order forms can also be found and returned near the library’s information desk and online. The new library is located next to the existing on at 255 Main St., Southington.
These bricks will be part of the outdoor courtyard that extends north off of the Community Room in the new Southington Library.
The patio will be located where a portion of the existing building stands today.
The new building is currently under construction and on target to open in late November 2024.
The current building will be demolished over the winter.
The patio brick installation is expected to start mid-February 2025, weather permitting, with the landscaping to be completed in the spring of 2025.
“I remember when the customized pavers were installed on the sidewalks downtown,” said Tina Riccio, chairperson of the Southington Public Library Board. “Families were excited to walk around and find their brick. I hope the same will be true at the library.”
This fundraiser is part of the public phase of the board’s capital campaign to help pay for furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
This enables public funds to be used to maximize the square footage of the new building.
Other opportunities are available for community members to be recognized for their contribution to the campaign.
For donors pledging $5,000 or more, there is a list of naming opportunities, including benches, study areas, and rooms.
Donors who contribute over $1,000 can have their name on a plaque that will be displayed in the new building.
The brick orders, donations, and pledges are being collected and managed through a fund at the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain, which was started over 15 years ago.
