SOUTHINGTON — A imposter registration plate on a stolen car led to the arrest of three people on drug charges Monday, Southington police said.

Police said William Brophy, 61, of Wolcott was spotted operating a Nissan on North Main Street in
Southington and a Department of Motor Vehicles check of the registration showed that the plate was canceled and that it should have last been on a Toyota, police said.

An officer stopped the Nissan and the VIN showed up as a vehicle reported stolen out of New York, police said.

Andrew Perugini, 54 of Wolcott, and a woman who at first provided a false name, but was later identified by paperwork located in the vehicle as Samantha White, 26, of Waterbury, were passengers in the vehicle, police said.

A police dog was called to the scene and indicated there were drugs in the vehicle.

Perugini was also found with a glass pipe with burnt ends that was "consistent with drug use," police said.

White had heroin, a glass pipe, and syringes in her purse, police said.

Brophy was charged with second-degree larceny and the improper use of a registration
plate. He was held on a $10,000 bond and was to appear in Bristol Superior Court on Tuesday, police said.

Perugini was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, released on a $1,500 non-surety
bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 22, police said.

White was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, interfering with an
officer, and criminal impersonation, police said. She was held on a $5,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

White was also found to have three additional warrants, two for probation violations and one for failing to appear in curt, police said.
