Tax Breaks For Industrial Developers To Go Before Southington Council
The tax abatement would act as an incentive for industrial developers to come to Southington.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A plan to grant industrial developers tax breaks for road and infrastructure work that will benefit the town will be discussed and, possibly, decided by the town Tuesday.
The Southington Town Council on Tuesday, Oct. 11, will host a public hearing at 7 p.m. in the John Weichsel Municipal Center Assembly Room.
At the Sept. 26 Southington council meeting, when the board scheduled the public hearing, Southington Town Manager Mark J. Sciota briefed local officials on the plan.

The tax abatement would act as an incentive for industrial developers to come to Southington and add jobs and improve the town's tax base.
Sciota said the proposal would be something Southington Economic Development Director Louis A. Perillo III could use in marketing to potential developers.

He added the tax breaks would only be for industrial developers, not residential, mixed-use or commercial developers.
"This is a tax abatement specifically for Industrial zones I-1 and I-2," Sciota said, adding a few years ago, this was approved by the town, but the time period for approval then had lapsed, requiring new action.
"It was very successful when we had this four years ago," Sciota said.
He said the program allows developers to apply for tax abatements, so granting them isn't automatic.
"All tax abatements have the same thing, is it in the best interests of the town," Sciota said.
