NEWINGTON - Every December for more than 10 years, Jefferson House has organized the Charity Bake and Craft Sale to benefit the Town of Newington’s Special Needs Fund. This fund allows the town to provide assistance during the holidays, emergency financial assistance for heat, non-covered medical expenses and utility bills for eligible residents. The recent donation totaled $700, the most money raised to date by Jefferson House, located at 1 John H. Stewart Drive.

Mary Roche, director of Therapeutic Recreation and Volunteer Services at Jefferson House, said the fundraiser was begun more than 10 years ago and has received enthusiastic support from staff, residents and family members. Items included baked goods, craft items and theme baskets. Jefferson House music therapist, Laura Bunker, donated free piano lessons, a prize that was won by employee Pawel Olechowski for his 7-year-old daughter.

“Jefferson House is an integral part of the Newington community and many of our residents were involved in volunteering and supporting charity events. This fundraiser is an example of how Jefferson House keeps our residents involved in the activities they enjoyed in the greater community,” Roche. “We also credit our staff for being integral in making the Charity Bake and Craft Sale so successful.”
