Southington PZC To Gather Input Tonight On Large Development

The Southington PZC tonight (Feb. 21) will have a public hearing and vote on a large, mixed-use development in town.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Local officials Tuesday night will listen to testimony and, possibly, decide the fate of a large residential/commercial development planned for West Street.

The Southington Planning and Zoning Commission meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at the John Weichsel Municipal Center's assembly room, 196 N. Main St., Southington.

There, the PZC will host a public hearing for a Dallas, Texas,-based developer for a multi-building apartment complex that would also include some retail space as well.

According to documents submitted to the town, the developer — Anthony Properties LLC — is looking to build a mixed-use development featuring eight buildings total, including 244 residential units, a clubhouse and pool and about 17,500 square feet of commercial space.

The land where the development would happen is owned by Southington resident Roger C. Toiles of Spring Street.

The project would be at 1177 , 1193 and 1303 West St., according to a letter from developer representative Ronald Bomengen, of the Manchester-based Fuss & O'Neill engineering consultant firm.

He wrote the commercial space would entail two buildings at the corner of West and Curtiss streets.

The public hearing is for the development, but the PZC is expected to vote on it via two separate items: one for a special permit and the other for site plan approval.

The property currently is located in a so-called "mixed use transition" zone, meaning it is an area between residential and commercial developments.

Tuesday night's hearing would allow folks to comment for or against the development to the town's PZC.

So far, one resident Josephine Pisarsky of Curtiss Street, has expressed open opposition to the plan, submitting a letter to the town expressing concerns about a continued increase in traffic in the area.
