Large Knife in Vehicle Leads to Charge in Southington

The incident was initially reported as a rad rage.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A man accused of carrying a large hunting knife in his car is due in court on Tuesday to answer a weapons in a motor vehicle charge, police said.

The arrest of 52-year-old Donald Donaghy of Bristol dates back to Sept. 29, when Southington police received a report of a road rage and reckless driving incident that began on Interstate-84 eastbound and continued northbound on West Street in Southington, according to a report.

Police eventually located the vehicles on West neat Queen Street and during a traffic stop, Donaghy allegedly told an officer that he had a hunting knife under the seat of his vehicle, according to a report.

An officer located two plastic bags of suspected marijuana one on the ground next to Donaghy’s vehicle and another one inside the vehicle. One weighed approximately .28 ounces and the second bag weighed approximately .54 ounces, according to a report.

The hunting knife measured about 7.5-inches long., police said.

Southington police dog Kira assisted in the investigation.

According to a report, Donaghy posted a $5,000 non-surety bond and was given a Tuesday court appearance.
