LIFELONG SOUTHINGTON RESIDENT WALTER J. HUSHAK NAMED A MARSHAL FOR SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 6's STATEWIDE CT VETERANS PARADE

Southington resident Lt. Col. (Retired) Walter J. Hushak has been named one of three marshals for the Sunday, November 6th Connecticut Veterans Parade in Downtown Hartford.

At age 93, Hushak proudly marches in uniform at every Connecticut Veterans Parade. He preserves the history of WWII by speaking with school students of all ages.

The World War II II Army veteran was a pilot of a B-24 Liberator bomber in the Pacific from 1944 to 1946; missions included battles at Iwo Jima, Pagan and Marcus Island. He then served in the Air Force Reserve for 27 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.

New England’s largest veterans parade will step off on Sunday, November 6 at 12:30 p.m. near the State Capitol Building, rain or shine. Special features on parade day include an 11:30 a.m. Wreath-Laying Ceremony at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch to remember all veterans. At 1:30 p.m., a Moment of Silence will take place, as marchers stop in-place to remember soldiers who died while serving their country, followed by a tolling of church bells, the singing of the National Anthem, and the flyover of a C-130H aircraft from the Connecticut Air National Guard’s 103rd Airlift Wing.
