Major Accident Closes Busy Southington Roadway: Police

The accident involved four vehicles and a motorcycle, with one victim suffering 'serious' injuries on Thursday afternoon.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Motorists are being urged to avoid a section of roadway in Southington following a serious, multi-vehicle crash that caused serious injuries on Thursday afternoon.

According to the Southington Police Department, at approximately 1:25 p.m., the SPD, along with the Southington Fire Department and AMR, were dispatched to a multi-vehicle collision in the area of Meriden Waterbury Turnpike and Canal Street.

This collision involved four vehicles and a motorcycle, according to police.

"Upon arrival, it was found the operator of the motorcycle had sustained serious injuries as a result of this collision and was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for further treatment," wrote the SPD.

The roadway is currently closed in the following locations:

• Meriden Waterbury Turnpike at Clark Street

• Meriden Waterbury Turnoike ast Knotter Drive

• Canal Street at Burritt Street

• Peck Lane at West Johnson (Cheshire)

The Southington Police Department’s Accident Investigation Team has been activated and is responding to the scene to continue this investigation.

"We are asking motorists to avoid the area as the roadway is expected to be closed for the next several hours," wrote police.
