SOUTHINGTON, CT — When Southington Police Department Chief John "Jack" Daly first started at the department, a president who many thought was too old was running for re-election.

Now, four decades later, little has changed nationally in another election year, but a lot has changed for Daly, who celebrated 40 years at the SPD on Monday, Jan. 29.

To commemorate his special anniversary, the SPD Monday posted photos of Daly holding a baby from 1984 and, again, about four decades later. (For the record, the babies are not the same.)

What is the same, according to the department, is Daly's "level of service and dedication to the Town of Southington."

When the current chief started at the SPD, he was Officer Daly and, before he became "Chief Daly" in 2002, the longtime lawman held many different roles and titles within the department.
