Major Retailer Slated For Shuttering In Southington

The fiscally troubled chain has been closing stores throughout Connecticut in recent weeks.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — It appears more Connecticut-based Bed, Bath & Beyond stores are closing, with someone at the Southington store Monday confirming that store's imminent shuttering.

A representative answering the phone at the Southington Bed, Bath & Beyond confirmed that store's imminent closure, though no further details were available as to when that was happening.

The person said, currently, there is a 20 percent sale on all items in the store, which is located at 835 Queen St.

The individual said store employees found out about the Southington store's imminent closing last Thursday, Jan. 26.

The New Jersey-based retailer announced in August it would be closing about 150 of its more than 900 locations nationwide, though it appears that list is growing and could grow in upcoming days.

Wethersfield and Enfield stores, for example, are also tagged for shuttering.

Late last week, CBS News reported a securities filing indicated the company had defaulted on loans, and was considering restructuring its debt in bankruptcy court.

The well-known retailer specializes in bathrooms, kitchens and home decor, among other retail offerings.

Reportedly, sales have been plummeting and company officials have openly reported concerns about the company staying in business.
