Man Accused of Leaving Child in Southington McDonald's: Report

A man was arrested after allegedly leaving a child in a Southington McDonald's to sit in his car, police said.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Two charges have been filed against a Manchester man accused of leaving a child in a Southington McDonald's while he went to his car.

Wallace Hart, 29, of Manchester, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and risk of injury to a minor for the Sunday incident, police said.

That day, Southington Police responded to the McDonald’s on Queen Street after being told a man who "appeared to be under the influence of drugs," was there with 6-year-old child, a report indicates. The man allegedly left the child unattended at a table, exited the restaurant to his vehicle, and sat in it for some time, according to a report.

Hart was found with both heroin and cocaine, according to a report.

A family member was contacted and arrived to take custody of the child, police said.

The identity of the child and details of the relationship between Hart and the child are being withheld to "protect the child’s identity," police said.
