Man Accused of Stealing Items Used for Southington Festivals

He was wanted for that crime and a rowdy domestic incident, police said.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A Southington man who is accused of breaking into a municipal garage and stealing and "scrapping" several items used for town festivals has been attested, police said.

On Friday at about 6 p.m., bail enforcement agents turned over to local police Jared Martin, 36, of
Southington, on three active arrest warrants, according to a news release.

On the first warrant, he was charged with third-degree burglary and second-degree larceny. according to the warrant, sometime in late May through June 8, Martin burglarized a town-owned storage garage on East Summer Street.

Taken in the burglary was what police described as "a large quantity of miscellaneous electrical items and equipment" town crews uses for various festivals and events throughout the year, police said.

Martin was found to have sold the items reported missing at a local scrap dealer, police said.

Total value of the items taken is $13,686, police said.

He was charged with disorderly conduct on the second warrant and given a $2,500 bond, police said.

The warrant stems from a domestic violence investigation that Martin’s residence on June 10, police said. The warrant alleges that during the incident, Martin followed the victim through a house "yelling and screaming for money."

The victim took refuge in a locked room, called 911 and martin fled, according to the warrant.

The third warrant charges Martin with failure to appear on July 6 for second-degree burglary and probation violation charges, police said.
