Man Arrested for Damaging 'Borrowed,' Car in Southington

The car incident was a by-product of a domestic incident, police said.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A man has been arrested for a recent domestic violence case at a Southington hotel, police said.

At 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Pete Medina, 23, of Bristol, surrendered at Southington Police Headquarters after learning that a warrant had been issued for his arrest, police said.

The warrant stems from a domestic violence investigation that was reported on April 15 at the Days Inn, 30 Laning St., police said. Medina was charged with violating a protective order, disorderly conduct, taking a motor vehicle without permission and second-degree criminal mischief, police said,

He was held on a $35,000 bond and was to appear in presented in court later Tuesday, police said.

Police said that on April 15, Medina and a woman were involved in an argument that escalated into a physical altercation, police said. After the incident Medina allegedly took her vehicle without her permission.

The woman then contacted police to report the incident. After police made contact with Medina, the vehicle was returned to the victim, according to an arrest report.

When the vehicle was returned, the woman noticed that the navigation/center control panel inside the vehicle was damaged, police said. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $1,500, police said.

During the course of the investigation, Medina also allegedly violated the terms of an active protective order.

There were no injuries reported, but police are considering the case to be a domestic violence incident and no further details about the victim are being released.
